Dactinomycin is an anti-cancer ("antineoplastic" or "cytotoxic") chemotherapy drug. This medication is classified as an "antitumor antibiotic." Cancerous tumors are characterized by cell division, which is no longer controlled as it is in normal tissue. "Normal" cells stop dividing when they come into contact with like cells, a mechanism known as contact inhibition. Cancerous cells lose this ability.
Dactinomycin Injection is used to treat Wilms' tumor, Childhood Rhabdomyosarcoma, Ovarian (germ cell) cancer, Gestational trophoblastic neoplasm, Ewing's sarcoma, Metastatic testicular tumors (nonseminoatous), Gestational trophoblastic neoplasm, Locally recurrent or locoregional solid tumors (sarcomas, carcinomas and adenocarcinomas), Soft tissue sarcoma and Osteosarcoma.
nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, loss of appetite; tired feeling, muscle pain; rectal pain or bleeding; numbness or tingly feeling around your mouth, fast or slow heart rate, muscle tightness or contraction, overactive reflexes; hair loss; dry or cracked skin, chapped lips; or acne, mild skin rash.

Dactinomycin may lower the ability of your body to fight infection. Avoid contact with people who have colds or infections. Tell your doctor if you notice signs of infection like fever, sore throat, rash, or chills.
Dactinomycin may reduce the number of clot-forming cells (platelets) in your blood. Avoid activities that may cause bruising or injury. Tell your doctor if you have unusual bruising or bleeding. Tell your doctor if you have dark, tarry, or bloody stools.
Dactinomycin may increase the risk of developing other cancers (eg, leukemia) when it is used along with radiation therapy. Talk to your doctor if you have questions about your risk of developing other cancers after using it.
Lab tests, including liver function, kidney function, and blood counts, may be performed while you use Dacilon. These tests may be used to monitor your condition or check for side effects. Be sure to keep all doctor and lab appointments.
Dacilon may slow growth rate in CHILDREN and teenagers in some cases. They may need regular growth checks while they use this medication.
PREGNANCY and BREAST-FEEDING: Dacilon may cause harm to the fetus. Do not become pregnant while you are using it. If you think you may be pregnant, contact your doctor. It is not known if this medicine is found in breast milk. Do not breast-feed while using this medication.
